1920s Chrysallis Coat...
Design - Here we have an absolutely exceptional black silk cocoon coat from the 1920's. It's somewhat like an opera cape in that that the arms slide through slits, but unlike a cape it fastens at the waist. A second upper layer trimmed in intricate rope work hovers above the first cocoon layer of the coat. Undoubtedly, this pieces best feature is the padded collar. It had two padded sections that wrap around the neck and fasten at the front creating the utmost drama. The entire piece is the exaggerated fashion plates of the era, signifying this other worldly silhouette, come to life.
Material - black silk, grey silk lining, black rope work trimming.
Maker - There is no makers mark but this coat was exceptionally well designed and created.
Measurements
*I wanted to note that my model is 32-28-39 for perspective on size and it was not pinned on her.
Length - 48"
Condition - This is in very good condition with the exception of a small repair to the silk on the neck and minor lightening of the black on the rope work. Also, the original silk lining was discolored and has been professionally replaced in a like colored silk. It comes to you in clean ready-to-wear condition.
A wonderful example of 1920's high fashion to add to your vintage wardrobe!
