Early China Poblana Beaded Dreem...

Design - Here we have an exceptional China Poblana Piece from the 1920s. Beauty, born of the meeting of two cultures long ago made way for this wonderful and rich tradition. The history of the China Poblana is one of many beautiful stories found behind the astounding traditional fashions of Mexico. This is a truly rare piece of that history, with other examples only being found in museums around the world.

This lovely blouse is on a natural cotton base with hand sewn beadwork on the front of the bodice, sleeves and trimming the neckline and sleeves. The densely beaded bronzed eagles with an orange snake in its beak while standing on a cactus is a design, now a famous Mexican emblem that was established by the China Poblana as a pride for her adopted country so long ago. At the side of the eagle are two large agave plants an two multi-colored symbols above them as well as the same eblems, cactus and florals on the sleeves. Green & red beads are used for the trimming. The beads were likely trade beads, possibly from Czechlosovakia. This is a true museum or piece for the serious collector, likely to never be found again and guaranteed to be a one of a kind piece made long ago by a woman carrying on the China Poblana tradition in her own unique style.

Material - cotton, beads.

Maker - There is no makers mark but this blouse was exceptionally beaded.

Condition - This blouse is in very good condition for its age. There is no bead loss or damage to the blouse. The only issue is a light brown stain about 2" under the beaded part on the chest. Due to it's historical value we did not have the blouse cleaned. This type of cotton material is some of the easiest material to restore. We made the decision to keep the blouse as it stands in order to avoid any damage to the beadwork. As you can see it is wearable and everything is sturdy. We can send it out for a professional vintage restoration upon request. Please contact for a quote if that is something that is important to you.
