Miss Ranchero...

Design - Here we have a true 1940s women's ranchers hat. This type of hat was would most likely have been worn as an everyday work hat rather than a Dale Evans style cowboy hat of the era. It features a rounded upturned brim with a dark brown grosgrain trim on the under brim. The same brown grosgrain is used for the hatband. It has the classic ranch style flat top. A sturdy leather cord is used and still marked to wear it's original owner Mrs. Betty Martin used it, holding it on tightly for whatever her daily tasks were. The inside of the hat is a red satin with the slightly faded image of a golden outlined cowboy on a bucking bronco. You'd be hard pressed to find a western hat in this style from the era.

Material - Taupe beaver, chocolate brown grosgrain, leather cording, red satin.

Maker - "Miss Ranchero" An address label also adorns the inside of the hat "Kenneth & Betty Martin. P.O. Box 136, Grants Pass, Oregon" (Pre-zip code days) Also stamped "Merrimac Hat Corp 100% Wool Processed Felt
