LAYAWAY Gorgeous 1920s silk opera cape with exceptional trapunto detailing

San Francisco Black Collection #5...

Design - Here we have an absolutely beautiful 1920s opera cape in a soft and glowing black silk. The design is classic to the mid 1920s with the wide collar gathered around the neck for volume and the drape over the shoulders and for its long drape that is both full and close to the body of the wearer. This is what gives these wonderful pieces such drama when worn. It is lined with a beautiful silk paisley in red, tans and buff. It closes at the neck with a loop and an ornate, oversized, black jet glass button.

The abstract leaf style trapunto detailing is unquestionably the most exquisite aspect of this cape and the workmanship on both the collar and the very large band of trapunto at the base of the jacket is exceptional.

Maker - There is no makers mark but this cape was exceptionally well designed and created as are all of the gowns in this collection. We are calling the dresses from this collection the "San Francisco Black Collection" because they belonged to a San Francisco socialite with ties to America's First Super Model Audrey Munson. The provenance is a bit murky and because we were unable to be 100% clear it is not included with the dresses or in the price of the garments.

Length - 45"

Condition - This cape was sent to Margaret's cleaners. Margaret's is the oldest couture cleaners in the country. The specialize in vintage couture cleaning and restoration. This cape is in excellent condition with no holes, damage or discoloration to the silk. It comes to you in clean ready-to-wear condition.
